I wanted to do a few book marks---and now I'm looking at free standing lace in a whole new way! Here are just a few designs I've been making. I don't have a very big collection of designs. I think that will be resolved very soon as I add to my collection. :o)
oh! oh! oh! You wanna know what I discovered about FSL?? Of course you do! :-)
ReplyDeleteEmbroider as usual, rinse out the water-soluble stabilizer. Then use .... as an appliqued motif!
Why? Well, last year? year prior? I made a wall-hanging for which a FSL angel would have been a PERFECT motif for a cornerstone. But .. oh dear ... it was FSL. So sad. But wait!! Who says that FSL *HAS* to be free-standing??
I just couched the angel onto the cornerstone and it was *perfect*! Just think of it as appliqueing a crocheted doily onto a quilt block. :-)
Additionally ... more food for thought ... I like to machine embroider initials or names onto fleece blankets. But if the embroidery is very dense, the fleece will "cup" and looks very unattractive.
In those cases, I machine embroidery the name/initial onto fibrous water-soluble stabilizer, over which I have have hooped *bridal tulle*. Once the stabilizer has been rinsed away, I trim the tulle very closely to the edge and applique the embroidered initials/name onto the fleece.
Voila! No cupping and it looks perfect! I love solutions! :-)
Your free standing lace items are beautiful. What fun to find a new way to use your machine. And to think it was there all along!

Beautiful work!!! I'm hooked on FSL too, but I need to find a good source for designs. I bought a beautiful design set off Etsy, but once I sewed them out, they fell apart. I think it's a problem with the design - very frustrating, because I absolutely LOVE the look of them.
